Prevent COGS from calculating in Closed Periods

Posted by CuriousRubik on 25 Aug, 2014

With the release of version 2010.2, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) program does not automatically perform costing corrections in past periods.  This is dependent on users not having transactions with mismatched date/period.

This occurs when user enters the transaction date that does not fall within the accounting period selected.

Example:

If user enters the transaction with date 15/1/2010 and Posting Period as September 2010 then the COGS will run based on 15/1/2010. All transactions after 15/1/2010 will be corrected even if September is closed.

Important Points about COGS:

  • The COGS program will not change transaction amounts in closed periods as long as there is no Date/Period mismatch.
  • The COGS program will run historically if a user manually edits the historical transaction or backdates the transaction.
